What is compact cotton?

Combed cotton with an extra compacting step for a smoother, stronger yarn.

Why the compacting step matters

Ordinary cotton yarn has loose fibres sticking out of it. Those loose fibres are what rub up into little bobbles, which is pilling. Compacting pulls the fibres in tight before the yarn is knitted.

The result is a smoother, stronger yarn with fewer loose fibres, so it pills less. For you, that means the pattern still looks sharp months in, rather than going fuzzy.

What you notice when you wear them

A smoother yarn feels smoother against the skin. The pattern edges stay clean, because there is less surface fuzz to blur them.

We pair the yarn with a Rosso-linked toe, a flat, low-bulk toe seam, so there is no ridge across the toes. In the range, the Classic and Bold designs use a 20/1 yarn and the Geometric designs use a finer 30/1.

What it is not

Compact cotton is not a different fibre. It is cotton, treated with care at the yarn stage. The fibre content of each design is listed on its own page once confirmed.
